Noah rolled over today! He was on his tummy for quite a long time, which he usually hates, and was exhibiting much better head and neck control compared to just yesterday.
Whenever we do tummy time, I feel like a physical therapist, encouraging him to strengthen those muscles and pushing him to stay on his tummy just a little bit longer. (Moms could build quite an extensive and impressive resume after raising a child, don't you think?) He gets quite cranky with me, and usually just uses the push up cushion as a pillow and lays his head down as you can see from the picture.
I was on the phone talking to my sister and he kept kicking over to the side and I said to her, "He's gonna roll over!" After several attempts, he did indeed succeed with many snuggles, words of praise and kisses from Mommy. Like I said, he hates tummy time, so I'm assuming this was his motivation. Who knows if and when he'll do it again, but I had him across my legs a little while ago and the little monster tried to do it again!
In other news, Noah has been sleeping well at night. Now that he has slept 8 or more consecutive hours all week, I've decided on what bedtime routine I will use for him. I noticed a bath relaxed him the other night, but I don't really want to dry out his delicate skin by dunking him in soap and water nightly. Wait, who am I kidding? Bathing an infant every night is just hard work, that's the real reaon. Anyways, I've decided on baby massage. Thanks to my friend Helen for the suggestion.
Last night I gave him his bottle at 7:30, changed his diaper and then lotioned up my hands and massaged his little arms, legs and feet while I sang to him. He loved it! He looked up at me the whole time and smiled. We had a little bedtime prayer, I put his pjs on and rocked him a bit, laid him down with his pacifer and he was out like a light by 8:15. I'm going to buy the Johnson's lavendar baby oil for tonight's routine. I'll let you know how it works.
I will admit that last night was, however, the first time in a few days that he woke up at 4:30. I was really hoping he'd put himself back to sleep, but it never happened--the boy was HUNGRY--so I reluctantly got myself awake enough to feed him. He was quite active after that feeding and didn't settle down until almost 5:30, but he slept until 8:30 so it wasn't a total loss.
He's getting quite the little personality on him too. I'm noticing small things that let's me know what kind of baby he is. For instance, if he wakes up from a nap, he doesn't cry, he just sort of vocalizes that he is now up and will continue to vocalize himself until you go in and let him know you heard him; he does not like to be alone. He also likes you to be very quiet when he is feeding. Yesterday I was watching this skateboarder fall 20 feet and loudly said, "OH MY GOSH, OH MY GOSH, OH MY GOSH," and the little lip pouted out and he started to wail. Earlier that morning I was having a discussion with Shane and had to holler to him from the living room to the kitchen and Noah did the same thing--lip pouted and he let out a cry. So I'll have to remember to speak quietly or not at all from now on!
As I sit here typing, my mind keeps wandering to the pile of dishes that need to be done in addition to cleaning the kitchen, but I just can't seem to get myself motivated enough to move in that direction. Noah is cat napping for maybe another 20 mins, so I really should get moving. I said this this morning at 11 when he napped, and again at 2:30 when he napped. Sigh. Somedays I just can't get out of my own way.
I'll let you know something else too...I'm still in my pajamas.

You're wonderful Sandy!! And that baby of yours is a sweetie!
Maddie does the same thing during tummy time, cranky and lays her head down!
Since 1 month of age I've bathed, lotioned and jammied my little man everynight but twice. Boy am I glad I listened to my mom.
As soon as the tub starts Matthew pops up, grabs his blanket and heads to the bathroom. He is in bed, awake, without complaint 20 minutes later. It used to be alot of work but so is trying to reason with a wild unwilling child to go to bed later. I strictly live by the code, short term pain for long term gain. Matthew is in bed by 8pm each and every night without a single insident.
The other thing is putting them to sleep asleep. Bad idea. I always put Matthew to bed awake and now he pops out of bed plays with toys and stuff and goes right back up on his bed and sleeps. Loooong term gain. It's a blessing to get great advice and have it works.
