Shiny, Happy Babies Selling Ads

Those pictures of smiling and gleeful babies on infant products entice me to buy them.

Then I get those wonderful products home and my baby is not smiling and gleeful--not a chance. That's because my baby is too busy screaming bloody murder.

Things I have bought that Noah hates:

1. Car Seat - Don't have much choice in the matter on this one, he has to be in it, but he HATES being in his car seat. We either have to be driving so that he falls asleep, or we have to keep strolling when out of the car so that he will fall asleep, or we have to keep the pacifier in his mouth when he won't sleep so he's at least quiet.

2. Head Snuggli - We purchased this when Noah was about 3 weeks old so that his little head wouldn't slump forward. HOLY SCREAMS. I guess he'd rather wake up with a crick in his neck then have his neck trapped in between a polyester filled pillow. Who can blame him, really?

3. Baby Swing - Ok, we didn't really buy this one, my good friend gave it to us. Thank God 'cuz he barely can stand swinging for any longer than 10 minutes.

4. Snuggli Carrier - I thought to myself, "What an ADORABLE happy baby on the box. How wonderful will it be to keep Noah close to me when he wants to be held and my arms are tired? How easy will it be to get around town when Shane is working. SOLD!" I got him in it and he screamed the whole time that I was putting him in. I guess it didn't help matters that I realized a little too late that I put his leg in the wrong hole. OOPS. Shane tried him out in it again many weeks later, but the only way he'd keep quiet was if he had a pacifier in his mouth.

5. Cuddly Wrap - "Shane! Look at all the pictures on this message board of all the mommies with their beautiful happy babies in slings and wraps! I bet Noah would LOVE this, it looks MUCH more comfortable. Besides, these mamas aren't trying to sell me anything. I'm getting one!" $55 and a million tears later, I gave up. I asked my BBC friends what I could do to make Noah enjoy it more--I can't carry him ALL the time! He's almost 16 lbs!! They gave me some great suggestions and the website:

I tried it out today. SUCCESS! Well, for 30 minutes anyway. Then Noah got hungry. Hungry babies confined to their mother's chest does not a happy baby make.

I did manage to snap a picture though--I needed something worth remembering for my $55. Maybe they can use me and Noah in their next ad and I'll get my money back.

Sanda,

You really need to calm down sweety.
Take 3 deeeeep breaths,

Feel all the tension released? Yea, good girl.

Mush,
I see you have found your way to my blog and commenting again.

That is fine, but this is your first and only warning...this is a positive blog and snide remarks or nonsense talk is not welcome here.

You ruined my other blog with your antics and I will not allow you to ruin this one.

This blog is for FIRST TIME MOMS and thier babies, not a place for you to prattle off your ridiculous attempt at humor.

If you have something POSITIVE to say, then you are free to comment; but, if you choose to ruin my blogging experience again, I will have to enforce comment moderation.

I have alot of readers on this blog, and I do not want to get into battling silliness with you.

Joshua HATED the snuggli or any kind of wrap. He is a free spirit, but once he was 15 lbs i bought the playex hip hammock, and he LOVES it, it was only $30 bucks at walmart, and i have at least gotten 5 times that back in sanity. I think you can do similar with the sling, which will help when all Noah wants to do is look around!

Thanks Alicia! I'll have to look into that...Noah is a "free spirit" too. Tried the wrap again tonight, not much success. lol

I'm glad someone else's kiddo hates the wrap. I read all of this AP stuff about how much kids love to be in slings. Well 20 minutes into a grocery shopping trip I'm awkwardly trying to untie the wrap to let the screaming baby out next to the green beans while some old lady is trying to run over me in her hoveround and another person is peeved because I'm standing right in front of what she needs.

RYC: I never thought I would google "catbus burningman"...and then I did.

(courtney from BBC who clicked your link from my page...it's like blog tag, I suppose.)

HAHAHAHA I am a SUPER sucker for anything that gave me 5 seconds of peace. Matthew screamed like a crazed animal the second he hit the table and didn't stop for months. He just didn't give me an inch.

I bought every gadget and gizmo on the market and for me the only thing that worked was the snuggly. That is as long as my body didn't stop moving of more then 10 seconds then he would howl bloody murder that they could hear in the next county. The worst was the soothing sound CDs and the massaging vibrating chairs. Makes me shake my head why I'm doing this to myself again. Amnesia I guess...cruel, very cruel LOL

From one mother who had a screaming demanding baby who didn't sleep through the night until 4 months to one who seems to have the same luck, it will pass. I have a beautifully sweet little man who is two. I have not seen his sweet face a single night, unless I went in to peek, since 4 months. He is making up in spades for the sleepless nights and screaming fits from the beginning.
