Baby Brain

They warned me it would happen.

All you first time moms (and second, third, fourth, time etc.) will know what I'm talking about when I say Pregnancy/Baby Brain.

Something happens to your memory when you get pregnant. It wasn't so bad at first. A forgotten conversation here, a misplaced item over there, just minor bouts of forgetfullness. I was so distracted when I got pregnant. My employees would insist they had told me certain things like requests for time off or customer complaints, but I would just look at them blankly with no recollection of what the hell they were talking about.

It's gotten worse. Somedays I feel as though I'm losing my mind. What is this strange phenonmenon that happens when we give birth? Did we give up brain cells during pregnancy that are now residing in our little ones' heads?

I have also noticed I am incapable of carrying on an intelligent conversation with adults outside of my own home. I cannot put two words together into a coherent sentence and I'm starting to get a bit rattled. My whole job is based on communication, what am I going to do when I go back to work? I'm fine when I'm writing, but umm....I can't write everything out before I say it at work!

My sister brought to my attention the other evening that I was telling her a story that I had already told her twice. She then told me that I was doing that alot lately and that sometimes she doesn't tell me and just sits through the story again. I told her not to do that anymore.

When Noah had his 2 month appointment, I had written down the day, but not the time. I showed up at the pediatrician's office at 9:30 only to find out my appointment was for 1:00. Then the other day I had made an appointment to get Noah checked for lead poisioning because our tap water has unaccepatable levels of lead and I was freaking out. They told me I could bring him in for 11:40 a.m.

I raced in the door at 11:37 and the receptionist looked at me and said, "You're late."

"No, my appointment is for 11:40."

She shook her head. "No, your appointment was 11:15, but that's ok. Have a seat."

I lose my keys, my wallet, my clothes, mail, shoes, bank cards, health cards, money, etc.

Last night I bathed the baby and put his pjs down and couldn't remember where I put them. This is not a big house, people. There are only so many places to look.

To top it all off, on Wednesday night I awoke at 5:45 a.m. to Noah crying and I said, "Good boy!! You're back to sleeping through the night! I have your bottle all ready for you!" and I stumbled out to the living room to pick up the bottle. It was empty. I was confused. Then I remembered that I was up at 2 a.m. feeding him.

Now that I think of it, I'm going to have to look back through my past posts because I feel like I already wrote about this.

It happens to everyone. I'm actually surprised that I can still function. LOL

Wait, I wasn't done my comment. LOL I'm so bad, that I'll get up to go to the kitchen and forget what I went for...or I'll sit down at the computer to search for something, and before I can load my browser, I've forgotten.
Two weeks ago, I put the tent up in the backyard for the kids. We're getting ready to camping so Justin says, where did you put the tent. I had no idea. It turns out, the freakin' thing blew away into the neighbours yard. I had no clue, and couldn't remember if I'd actually taken it down or not.
These type of things happen at least 3 or 4 times a day.
I wonder if it will get better once the kids are grown? By then, we'll be too old to remember anything anyways. LOL

I forget what I go to the kitchen for too!

I never needed a list for ANYTHING. My memory was THAT good. Now I can't do anything without a list...and even then I'll forget to look at it...lol

Sandy,

I would think that having memory problems would be fairly normal for a first time mommy.
With everything being new, and you are so focused on your baby son, it will take your mind a while to get used to your new life with a baby.
Im sure your mind will adapt and things will slowly get back to normal with your concentration & memory.

Ok, Ive never been a woman with a new baby, but that is my best guess, hehe
P.S. I be very positive here, hehe

Forget about after the baby, did any of you find you lost your mind while you were pregnant?

Last time while I was pregant with Matthew, I was having a party and someone was making punch. I took a look at a can of juice, pinapple, and said "Oh I didn't know they sold banana juice." Arrrrgh everyone burst out with waves of laughter at my expense at that one. It was turned to the french side and I only saw the last half of the word.

Sadly, this pregnancy it's starting earlier. I am almost scared for myself and my family....LOL
