5 Things I've Learned in 5 Months

I can't believe 5 months have almost flown by already.

Some things I've learned in the past 5 months:

  1. You shouldn't worry about how much interaction you give your newborn in the first few weeks of their lives and just enjoy the fact that they just eat, sleep, and poop.

  2. If your baby is a good sleeper, do not give out sleep advice to sleep deprived moms.

  3. When you stop worrying about eye contact, you worry about getting a social smile. That worry is replaced with wondering if they will ever gain good head control. When you stop worrying about head control, you start worrying about whether or not they will ever learn to sit up on their own. (This is my current worry.) You would think with each passing month you would worry less. Not so, my friends, not so.

  4. You will never catch up on missed sleep. Sure, your baby starts sleeping longer stretches at night, but they are also up early and for longer stretches during the day. When your little one goes down for the night, if you're like me, you will not go to bed early like a sensible person. You will instead spend that time doing whatever you wish until you can't keep your eyes open any longer. (Which tends to be sometime around 11:00 for me, although I start feeling it around 8.) And if your baby sleeps straight through without so much as a peep when the light of day breaks, you are running to his room to make sure he's still alive.

  5. The phrase, "What did you do all day?" may provoke you to violence.
